Batteries for IoT Trackers in Containers

Global logistics is rapidly evolving. As e-commerce grows and supply chains demand greater transparency, IoT trackers that monitor container location, temperature, humidity, light and movement in real time are becoming essential. These devices enable more efficient and data-driven freight operations.

In container tracking, the battery is a critical part of system reliability. Trackers often need to operate continuously for years at sea, exposed to extreme conditions including temperature swings, moisture, vibration and shock. This means the power source must offer long life without maintenance, compact size and consistent performance in harsh environments.

At ACTEC, both primary lithium batteries and rechargeable NiMH batteries are used depending on application needs. Primary lithium cells, like Panasonic’s CR-LAZ series, provide very high energy density, low self-discharge and long service life across wide temperature ranges, making them ideal when replacement is difficult. Rechargeable NiMH batteries, for example the Panasonic HU series, are well-suited for trackers with solar charging due to strong temperature tolerance and reliable capacity retention.

Battery packs can be customized to match specific power consumption, size and lifespan requirements. ACTEC’s Danish production facility ensures tailored solutions, including wiring, connectors and protection features, with thorough testing under realistic conditions. For larger production runs, partnerships with reputable manufacturers like Panasonic ensure reliable quality and delivery.

Choosing the right battery solution makes IoT tracking systems more dependable, helping logistics operators achieve real-time visibility and better performance in global shipping.
